This is a cute eBook, geared towards children and is all about the many uses of an animal’s tails! The photography is stunning and descriptive in a way words fail.   This book is perfect to help your little student learn about animals.

Honestly, this book even taught Oma a few things. For example, Oma did not know:

In cold weather, fox generally curls up and covers its nose and paws with its tail to keep its body warm. When the fox climbs hills, it can balance its weight with the tail.

 Ian Tilmann loved skateboarding and spent many hours enjoying the sport. He loved feeling the wind surrounding him as he sped downhill carving each and every curve of the road beneath him. He was fearless with a strong belief in enjoying life to its fullest. He was a street surfer...his passion was long-boarding.

On the evening of May 16, 2005, Ian and several friends were skateboarding down Hercules Ave. in Clearwater, FL on a hill known locally as Cemetery Hill. As he was making his last run down the hill that evening his skateboard suddenly stopped and he was thrown headfirst onto the pavement.

Ian was NOT wearing a safety helmet and as a result he suffered severe traumatic brain injuries. Ian never regained consciousness and died 10 days later on May 26, 2005. This beloved son was 28 years old.

When people hear Ian's story many ask with shock and disbelief "he died from falling off a skateboard"?  His parents believe their son's death could have been prevented by simply choosing to wear a helmet.

Oma and Opa At the 2014 SCCA National Championship Runoffs

Opa and I spent October 8th through October 12th in the Carmel by the Sea area. We were there to spend time with Uncle Moses and Aunt Sitara. More than 500 cars were entered for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs (October 10-12), making it a thunderous nonstop three days of racing. Race fans were treated to twenty-seven different races, with each one crowning a national champion.

Uncle Moses is the manufacturer of the Formula Mazda class.  Fifteen Formula Mazda drivers competed in the 2014 SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The Formula Mazda podium consisted of winner Uncle Mike Anderson, second place Alan McCallum, and third place Stuart Rettie.

Opa and Oma stayed at the Hofsas House. 

The Hofsas House Hotel is a boutique family-owned inn with 38 uniquely decorated, spacious rooms, many with ocean views overlooking the pines in the village of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Dutch doors appoint each room allowing our guests to enjoy the fresh ocean air. Our guests watch glorious sunsets over the Pacific Ocean from the privacy of the inn's decks or rooms. Some rooms and most suites have fireplaces, private balconies, wet bars or kitchens.

The Hofsas House is located three blocks north of Ocean Avenue, eight blocks from the picturesque white sand Carmel beach and one block from a child-friendly City park. There is plenty of off-street parking and guests delight in walking everywhere in Carmel from the inn. Enjoy a continental breakfast in the morning with French Roast coffee, tea, fresh pastries delivered from a local bakery, juice and fruit.

We love the fireplace in our room and that everything was in walking distance! This hotel has a Heated Swimming Pool, Continental Breakfast, and free Free Wireless DSL. There is plenty of parking and Oma love the fact that the room had really glass drinking cups and glasses!

Although we did not have too much free time, we fit in a wine and chocolate tasting at De Tierra Vineyards; a family owned and sustainably operated winery. They have a limited production of estate grown Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot. Everything was yummy.

Our friends Dwayne and Judy introduced us to the Old Fisherman's Grotto on the Monterey, California Wharf. Very fancy yet affordable! Oma and Judy shared a Tiramisu desert which was delicious; 8 Italian custard made with mascarpone, vanilla sponge cake, marsala and espresso coffee and sprinkled with cocoa powder.

However, my Lobster Chili at Flaherty’s Oyster Bar was the best. We stopped in for lunch and it was both quaint and friendly.

Carmel has been a haven for artists and a refuge for writers and intellectuals who shaped this unique artist colony. Opa and Oma enjoyed a brisk walk while exploring a few of the nearly one hundred art galleries within a walkable one-square mile.
