My ALS Ice Bucket Challenge #icebucketchallenge

As of Sunday, August 17, 2014, The ALS Association has received $13.3 million in donations compared to $1.7 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 17). These donations have come from existing donors and 259,505 new donors to The Association.

The ALS Association’s mission includes providing care services to assist people with ALS and their families through a network of chapters working in communities across the nation and a global research program focused on the discovery of treatments and eventually a cure for the disease. In addition, The Association’s public policy efforts empower people to advance public policies in our nation’s Capital that respond to the needs of people with ALS.

So here I am to nominate my four soon-to-be ex-friends to accept this worthwhile challenge. Oma was very pleased to be picked to review the Ozeri WeightMaster 400 lbs Digital Bath Scale with BMI. This scale is very sleek, thin and stylish. 

Oma love the fact that although this scale is loaded with features such as the capability to save information for five users; the user manual was very concise and a quick sixteen-page read.

Oma had the batteries in the scale and the scale up and running in just a couple of minutes! The Ozeri WeightMaster met all Oma’s expectations!

Beach Break Café Review

Great Service ~ Great Food ~ Great Friends~

 

For our Sunday Breakfast, the family decided to experience something different. Reef Indy’s Mom and Dad recommended the Beach Break Café. So off to 1802 S Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA 92054 we drove.

Be prepared for a short walk, because the parking around the restaurant was completely taken. However, it was so very pleasantly warm in this beach community; the walk was a plus not a minus.

This establishment, which opened in 1988, serves their customers from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every day. They do not take reservations, so there was a line, literally, out the door when we arrived. They informed us that it would be a thirty to forty minute wait. Oma did not believe it; however, our party was seated approximately thirty minutes later.

Reef’s Mom and Dad ordered Vegetarian Omelettes. The Omelettes at the Beach Break are made with four large farm fresh eggs, served with your choice of our home style potatoes, crispy hash browns or sliced tomatoes, and coffee cake, toast, biscuits, or tortillas. Of course they picked the coffee cake option. Zack had been bragging about the coffee cake for months and Oma must admit the coffee cake was very moist and tasty.

Opa order his usually eggs over easy with sour dough toast. Oma, the last remaining local family carnivore, ordered a Frisco Burger. The 1/3 pound burger was well grilled and placed on sourdough bread. It was smothered in Monterey Jack Cheese and served with lettuce, tomato, fresh red onion and pickles. 

The escorting French Fries were scrumptious but could have been a tad warmer. Oma meant to take a photo of her food when it arrived; unfortunately, Oma eat it before accomplishing that task.

This restaurant is very kid friendly and Reef Indy enjoyed his first experience with crayons. Honestly, Oma does not understand why more eateries do not supply fun activates to occupy their younger clientele. This was indicative of the Beach Break's friendly milieu. 

On our way out, we stopped to enjoy the treasure of skateboard memorabilia adorning the restaurant walls. Mitchell Dwelley, the owner’s son explained that between 1999 and 2006, his father Gary would rummage through the Los Angeles area garage sales, while Mitchell and his brother attended water polo practice. There is so much history to absorb and enjoy!

Beach Break Pros:

• You can order anything you want from the menu Breakfast or Lunch;
• There was a coloring page and crayons for the kids;
• The service was quick and friendly;
• The ambiance is very unique and interesting;
• If you sit in the patio – you can bring your doggie;
• Portions are large and the food is fresh and tasty.

Beach Break Cons:

• The restaurant does not accept reservations and can be quite busy. However, they offer coffee while you wait – you just have to ask;
• We were seated in the patio and had to swat flies.

Oma's Review:  Beach Break Café is a"must" if you are in the in Oceanside, California area.  The food and service are both great while the ambiance is refreshing.  Everyone enjoyed their food and no one left hungry!

A friend recommended that Oma try the Steak ‘n Eggs – so that is what Oma will order next time we visit.

Oh, be sure to visit  the bathroom at the Beach Break Café, even if you do not need to use it - both the ladies and men’s rooms are works of art.

Valley Center Skate Spot Fundraiser

The community got together today to support an awesome cause – the Valley Center Skate Spot; and safe place for local kids to gather and skate. The fundraiser was conceived, planned and staffed by volunteers!

There was live music, street tacos for a buck, beer, bake sale, raffle, venders, snow cones, a bounce, and pro skaters!!!! Fun for everyone!

Oma must admit that she could not figure out how to open the battery box. However, it took Opa only a few seconds. There is a directional graphic on the box – you just find it and push the way the arrow is pointing.

FREE KPRI 102.1 Private Listener Concerts

Private Listener Concerts are local radio station, KPRI 102.1’s  way of saying THANKS for spending time with KPRi.   San Diego’s 102.1 KPRi is owned by two guys. That’s it. No big corporation, no Big Brother telling them what to do, nor what to play. Just two guys who love radio, Bob Hughes and Jonathan Schwartz who bought KPRi in 1996.

You might recognize Bob, as he hosts nights and some weekend shifts. KPRi has a staff of about thirty, many of whom have worked at the station for 10 years or more. The one thing everyone at KPRi has in a common is a HUGE passion for both San Diego and music!

The Private Listener Concerts happen randomly all over San Diego. They are free and intimate - Wanna go? It is simple, just click here to go to their webpage.

Oma loves attending these Private Listener Concerts and was fortunately enough to be picked for two such events in last year.

On March 13, 2013, Oma was introduced to artist Maia Sharp at the Apotheque Spa in Oceanside. If you do not know Maia Sharp’s music – you must check her out.

In addition to her solo career, Maia has written songs for and collaborated with several country and pop musicians including Cher, Trisha Yearwood, Terri Clark, Bonnie Raitt, Edwin McCain, and Art Garfunkel. This hour-long concert was amazing and made me a huge fan!

Oma bought two of her albums – Echo and Change the Ending. What a great experience – I was able to take a picture with Ms. Sharp and both she and her “band” - Linda Taylor signed my cd’s! Remember this awesome experience was free!

Then on May 24, 2013, a friend and Oma had a wonderful time at the "Family of the Year" Private Listener Concert! Family of the Year joined San Diego radio station 102.1 KPRi at the beautiful Estancia La Jolla Resort & Spa!

Yup we were there for free! Thanks so much KPRI!

Unfortunately, Oma has not been picked to attend any 2014 KPRI 102.1 Private Listener Concerts.  Nevertheless, I visit their website weekly to sign up for the drawing.

Rest assured that as soon as I am privileged to attend another Private Listener Concert  - Oma will posted the experience on "Oma Loves U!"
