Organics Black Mustard Seeds - 7 oz Review #jivaorganics

Highest Quality, Certified Organic Food At Affordable Prices

Oma has been working hard to become just a tad more health wise. Of course, exercise is on the top of the priority list. However, an even easier task is to simply eat better.

Unlike non-organic foods, organic foods are not produced using harmful chemicals! The only reason not to eat organically could possibly be that it is cost prohibitive for you.

Jiva Organics have made the choice to eat organically much easier.

At Jiva Organics, their mission is simple - to make high quality, fully organic grains and spices accessible to everyone.

The word “Jiva” means life. At Jiva Organics, we are small family business driven by care and respect for life – be it people or the environment around us. As a result, we source products that are completely natural, certified organic and grown with the underlying philosophy that promotes sustainability of Mother Earth for the present and future generations. Organic farms we work with are untouched by modern toxic inputs to produce pure and natural spices and grains of the highest quality, that result in delicious, healthy meals for you and your family . It's a simple choice that makes a big difference.

Oma was pleased to be chosen to review Jiva's Organics Black Mustard Seeds. Black mustard seeds are extremely versatile. They are one of the few spices that are commonly used across all regions of India. Mustard seeds are great for healthy eating, when you want to add flavor without adding fat. Mustard has been called the third most important spice after salt and pepper.

Here is a simple recipe Oma loves - Black Mustard Seed Spinach:

  • 2 lb. spinach
  • 1 Tbs. Indian sesame oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 dried red chili
  •  1 tsp. Jiva Organic Black Mustard Seed
  • 3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tsp. salt, plus more, to taste

Rinse the spinach thoroughly and drain. Set aside.

In a large fry pan over high heat, warm the oil. When it is very hot, add the chili and fry, stirring, until it turns very dark brown, about 1 minute. Add the mustard seed and cover the pan. When the seeds stop sputtering, after about 30 seconds, uncover and add the garlic. Cook, stirring, until the garlic turns golden, about 1 minute.

Add the spinach, a handful of leaves at a time, and stir gently. As soon as the spinach leaves wilt, add more. When all of the spinach leaves have been added, stir well and add the 1/2 tsp. salt. Cook, stirring, until the excess moisture evaporates, about 5 minutes. Adjust the seasonings with salt. Serve warm or at room temperature.
