Happy Birthday Dad

Oma fondly reminisces thirty-seven years ago, we had just moved into our new home that Opa built. I had been up and down the ladder all day, Watco oiling our paneling in the kitchen. Indigestion beset all day, followed by little cramps.

Opa came home from work and looked very concerned. However, in my wisdom, Oma informed him that she was fine and the baby was not coming.

Around 11:00 p.m., as we were trying to settle into bed, I would moan a bit every few minutes. Again I tried to convince my husband that our second baby was not on the way. Nevertheless, Opa did not listen. He telephoned his mother and she rushed over to come and babysit our oldest.

We had barely arrived at Pomerado Hospital when I realize that I was about to push our baby out into the world. We had to wait for the doctor to arrive and Zachariah Joseph arrive within the hour.

He has been a “dynamism not to be ignored” ever since!
