They come to us broken, scared, and alone

Needing love

The stability of a home

Some so tiny, fragile, and sweet

Some who spent their lives on the street

Some whose owners have passed away

Leaving no option, no place to stay

Every life special, every one unique

Seeing deep inside

For the love that they seek

It takes someone special to answer this call

For as many as we save

There are others who fall

Little lives gone in the blink of an eye

Tearing our heartstrings

Making us cry

But the someone who sees past

The scruffy soul

There is an unconditional love

That can make you feel whole

Healing the broken, the scared, and the weak

Making them realize it is love that they seek

The ones who have never felt kisses or hugs

Are the ones who become the best love bugs

They respond to a calm voice and gentle touch

And in return they give us so much

It is all worth it when they get a new start

And the previously unwanted

Become the key to your heart

Our happiness soars when a forever home is found

The strength of that bond cannot be unbound

It is not easy to do what we do

It is a trial

But saving just one life makes it all well worthwhile
