A mosquito hit me right on the cheek as I slept! I must invest in a Thermal Cell (Mosquito Repeller). Of course, Paul suffered no itchy bites. I guess he is just not sweet like me.

After about an hour on the road, we passed the camper of the older couple we had met at the Canyon Alpine RV Park – John and Abigail. I wondered if they were driving to the same RV Park. I waved as we passed but I believe they did not recognize me.

We witnessed a plethora of trucks hauling huge logs. That was a site to observe. Further, the smell of fresh cut lumber permeated the air pleasantly.

Paul and I decided to stretch our legs – woefully we picked the only rest stop without an ‘easy out.’ We had to unhook the tow vehicle!

We needed gas before retiring at the Shady Rest RV Park. We had to pass the park and drive into town about 3 km (1.86 miles) to the Petro Canada 7-11 station. All in all; an uneventful day.

Wildlife: One buck leisurely crossing the highway in front of us; about a thousand black ravens walking . . . reminiscent of a Steven King movie.

We are really getting into retirement; woke up late and did not leave for the day’s escapade until a bit after 9:00 a.m.

We drove to Barkerville. It was the main town of the Cariboo Gold Rush in British Columbia, Canada, and is preserved as a historic town. Not too much to see. However, it was well worth the $10.00 USD for the two of us – May is half-price day.

Even more noteworthy, was our drive to Barkerville. We spotted three does and five black bears. Momma Bear and her three cubs were eating dandelions very close to the highway and did not scare off as I clicked my photos. In fact, the family walked towards the car to reach more of those tasty flowers.

After much debate, we opted out of buying a fishing license due to cost, time limits and pesky mosquitoes. Shame because the fish were biting. I received three good mosquito wheals (bites). Time to mix up some baking soda paste.

Sprinkles and mosquitoes as we broke camp this morning. Nevertheless, we were on the road forty-five minutes later (8:30 a.m.) The older couple we met the night before, John and Abigail Daily were on the road already. Funny coincidence, they left for their trip to Alaska on Mother’s Day (May 12th); same as us. Hopefully we will meet up again.

Morning was slowed a tad (20 minutes) by construction. They were pinning catch netting to the tall cliffs off the 1 East. We were the first stopped in the line and spent the time talking to Canadian Flagman, Eric. He told us some funny jokes I had better not write down here!

As we continued our travels East, the landscape morphed from a deep green of heavy pines to the bright lime green of a grassy valley. We had a quick lunch stop at the South Cariboo Rest Stop.

There sure are lot of lakes and rivers in Canada. Our campsite was no exception. We were in spot 41, right beside Dragon Lake. We attempted to walk a bit after we setup camp and finished dinner. Miserably, the dragonflies and mosquitoes were on the rampage. Paul and I retreated into the safety of the Beast. Since the free internet at the Roost was so fast, I took the opportunity to pay next month’s bills.

We spent a nice and calm leisurely day at the Hell’s Gate Airtram. The place was almost empty. Just the way we like it. Hell's Gate is an abrupt narrowing of British Columbia's Fraser River, located immediately downstream of Boston Bar in the southern Fraser Canyon.

The towering rock walls of the Fraser River plunge toward each other forcing the waters through a passage only 35 metres wide. The Airtram runs every ten minutes. The natural landscape in this park is breathtaking.

Then we had to travel 48 Kilometers (thirty miles) to find a halfway decent grocery story. Not an organic store in sight. We ended up in the Lytton AG Market. (We were able to find the fixings for Taco Tuesday.) After leaving the checking out, we did a quick tour of the city of Lytton – took about three minutes . . . . a quaint small town.

I was hoping to catch-up on my blogging; unfortunately, I was never able to get the internet package I bought to work correctly. (lookieloo.net) I wrote George an email expressing my displeasure to no response.

On our way to the Canadian Border. The traffic through Seattle was light and calm. Unfortunately, there were homeless encampments all along the freeway. Further, the roads are bumpy as heck.

GPS took us a round about way to the Canadian Border. We were able to get gas on the USA side at a Super Duper for $3.39 per gallon. We hit the Border at 11:00 a.m. There were only ten vehicles a head of us!

The border crossing was simple – showed our passports and answered some questions about plants and fruit. We arrived at the Canyon Alpine RV Park around 1:00 p.m.

The campground is nice but not as advertised. Their free internet does not work. I bought their 48-hour package and that did not work either. Called for help at 2:20 p.m. They said they would respond in five minutes because they were not in the office. They never did call back – however, when I checked again at 2:47 p.m., we were connected.

Spend the day getting ready for the next leg of our jaunt. Paul set up the inverter (12 volts to 120 AC); so I could work on the computer while we are driving. In the process, he cut open his left arm after bumping open his forehead!

I did the laundry . . . . washed about everything in the motorhome – five loads. There were lots of interesting folks to talk to in the Milton Laundromat.

Met Delores’ grandson Chris and shared a hamburger dinner with him. He had just made an unsuccessful attempt to secure a berth on the PGA tournament. Paul and I didn’t socialize much. We hit the hay early in anticipation of an early start in the a.m.

Paul and I spend the day with our cousins Joe and Karen. After a homemade, they drove us to the Westport Winery Garden Resort where they are members. Westport Winery Garden Resort and the Sea Glass Grill are located halfway between Aberdeen and Westport (just about an hour and a half from our camp).

We enjoyed a liberal wine tasting and a very informative tour led by Dana. Dana’s family runs the resort and they are working hard to make this winery a tourist “destination.”

Karen generously gifted me with three bottles of Westport Wine. I chose Boom Runner (Sparkling Rose of Pinot Noir); Smoky Nor’Wester (Merlot) and Jetty Cat (a Petite Sirah/Syrah/Cab Sauv Mix).

This winery has acres of gardens to wander through. What a pleasant outing.

Returned just in time to spend a few moments with Delores, Clete and Barbara. We were pretty tuckered.
